Hydrotherapy

Did you know our physiotherapists and exercise physiologists offer hydrotherapy to patients?

Hydrotherapy is a form of rehabilitation that is conducted in a pool. Exercising in a warm pool makes the movement easier, safer and more comfortable as the warm water supports your body weight and reduce the effects of gravity, allowing you to move more freely and with less pressure onto your joints and less pain.

Hydrotherapy sessions generally involve an initial assessment to assess your needs and appropriateness for hydrotherapy, and your physiotherapist or exercise physiologist will tailor your exercise program specifically to your needs. Hydrotherapy exercises might involve pool walking, strengthening, stretching, balance retraining and functional tasks. The program will be carefully progressed overtime to optimise your overall function.

Hydrotherapy is suitable for all ages and abilities, and particularly beneficial to people with:

  • Joint pain such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis

  • Post surgical rehabilitation

  • Spinal pain - such as back pain

  • Neurological conditions such as Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis

  • Balance difficulties or increased risk of falls

  • Chronic pain conditions

Our hydrotherapy sessions can be conducted in either the Logan North Aquatic Centre or the Gould Adams Park Aquatic Centre, both of which are wheel chair accessible. If you are interested in knowing more about hydrotherapy, please do not hesitate to contact us.
